OINTMENT is a unique conference designed for clergy, clinicians, and mental health professionals interested in integrating Orthodox Christian theology and spirituality with contemporary mental health practice and theory.
The conference brings together knowledgable voices in Orthodox Christian thought and clinical practitioners to explore the profound healing resources within the Christian tradition, particularly through the lens of neptic theology—the ancient Orthodox practice of guarding the mind and heart.
This institute will be a fellowship of clergy, spiritual fathers and mothers, clinicians (mental health workers, addiction counselors, psychologists, etc), and interested laypeople which will emerge from this inaugural conference, and will continue in mutual support through both online and in-person meetings. The goal of the fellowship will be an integrated vision and practice of the spiritual life that includes the healing and well-being of all facets of the soul.
The status quo often misses the mark when caretakers of soul and body are operating independently of one another. It is our hope that by increasing mutual awareness and developing practical, meaningful tools and means of collaboration, that the commandment of Christ to the Church found in Matthew 10 to heal the sick and cast out demons will be facilitated to its greatest extent to the glory of God and by His grace.
Whether you are a clergyman, a practicing therapist/counselor, a healthcare professional, student, or interested layperson this conference offers valuable insights into integrating contemplative Orthodox practices with evidence-based mental health care.
Learn from Orthodox clergy and mental health experts, including His Grace Bishop Serafim, Fr. Nectarios Trevino, and Fr. Turbo Qualls.
Explore practical applications of neptic theology in clinical practice through interactive sessions.
Connect with fellow clergy, clinicians, and mental health professionals to build lasting relationships and collaborative partnerships.
Kintsugi - A Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, highlighting the beauty in brokenness and transformation.
This theme beautifully illustrates the healing of the Person in the Orthodox patristic tradition, where wounds are not hidden but transformed into vessels of grace. Just as the golden seams in kintsugi pottery make the piece more valuable and beautiful than before it was broken, the process of healing through Orthodox spiritual practice and therapeutic care can transform our brokenness into something radiant with divine grace.
